The Team 2009

The Your Planet Needs You! crew continues to grow in number and experience. Three of our team featured on our first program in April 2007 and others have joined us along the way. 

Here’s a little bit about each of the team –if you are under 22 and would like to be part of the team,please let us know via the email form on our contact page.

Lucy Butler –Presenter and Technical Operator 

Lucy joined Wonderful World Media in January 2007 as an intern for What A Wonderful World (3WBC –4:00pm Mondays) and was part of the first Your Planet Needs You! program in April 2007.

Lucy has completed her VCE,including successfully achieving her Certificate III in Radio Broadcasting. She’s having a year off from studying and can be found scanning items through registers in a couple of local shops.

When she’s not working or on radio,she really enjoys playing hockey and coaching at her local Auskick centre.


James Brooks –Presenter and Technical Operator 

James joined Your Planet Needs You! in April 2007 and was also part of our first program.

James completed his VCE in 2008 and has now started his tertiary studies at Swinburne University. His is completinga course in Commercial Radio.

Outside of school and radio,James enjoys playing sport –in particular basketball,football and cricket –and following the Brisbane Lions in the AFL. He’s also a fan of well-known Melbourne band,Charlie Red.


Aurora Oncken –Presenter  

Aurora is the third of our presenters who took part in the first ever Your Planet Needs You in 2007.

Aurora is in year 11 and has the dubious honour of travelling two hours each way to school every day. This makes Aurora very skilled in the use of public transport and studying on trains.

Aurora is passionate about the environment and always seems to have another worthwhile project for the team to support.


Zac Benton –Presenter and Technical Operator 

Zac joined the program in mid-2007 and has taken the lead on the technical stuff that’s involved in running a radio program.

He enjoys it so much,he also does the same thing for Live The Good Life with his grandparents,John and Viv Benton on 3WBC every weekend. He also has a segment called Teen Green Scene on Live The Good Life every week.

Zac is born performer who has appeared in a range of musicals and other theatre including Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat and Ulysses. He also appeared in the documentary “Tilting At Treadmills”at the age of four.


Bella Caruso –Presenter  

Bella is sixteen years old and currently studying in year 121.

Bella spent a year with her year level and friends in the Victorian high country,as part of her school’s year nine program. During that time,she fell in love with the environment and developed a respect for the community,coming to realise the need for everyone to help however they can.

Bella says “I think this radio station and our program are amazing opportunities for the youth of today to voice our opinions and get people aware of issues that we are faced with every day.”


Elsa Caruso –Presenter  

Elsa is an inquizative and bubbly twelve year old. She is very concerned about the environment and is trying to help as much as she can.

At school,Elsa has become a member of the Global Awareness committee. She also loves perfoming and creative writing,and enjoys being a member of the Your Planet Needs You! team.

Elsa will take a particular interest in issues affecting our youngest listeners and will be part of our monthly program aimed at our junior audience.


Anna Bainbridge –Presenter  

Anna joined the Your Planet Needs You! team in February 2008 and has made a real impact with her enthusaism for the program.

Anna is a year twelve student and is working on her International Baccalaureate diploma. Bella introduced her to the program and the team –and now,Anna is forever in her debt!

Anna says “I love being on Your Planet Needs You! –it is just such great fun to be on the show with my school friends,plus the new friends I’ve made amongst the team.”


Lizzie McMahon –Presenter  

Lizzie joined the Your Planet Needs You! team in May 2008. She is a year twelve student and is also working on her International Baccalaureate diploma. Lizzie’s sister has recently travelled to Africa and her sister’s experiences with the poverty in Africa inspired Lizzie to get involved with the environment and human rights issues.

Lizzie says “I love how Your Planet Needs You! it’s not only fun but it also allows you to voice your opinions and help the world that we live in. I am really pleased that I am part of the team!”


Sam Butler –Presenter 

Sam joined the Your Planet Needs You! team in June 2008. He is a year nine student who is keen to try his hand at broadcasting.

Sam is also keen to learn some of the technical aspects of presenting the program.

Away from the microphone and panel,Sam is a keen sportsman,playing basketball and football for his school and,during the summer months,cricket for his local cricket club. As well,he has started learning the bass guitar –who knows he might soon be a guest on Sunday Live.


Viarnne Mischon –Executive Producer  

Viarnne had the vision to create Your Planet Needs You! –a program for young people and presented by young people as part of her Wonderful World Media Network.

Viarnne started Wonderful World Media to be a leader in the new paradigm of positive media with every affiliated program designed to provide the listeners with a healthy diet of uplifting radio.

Viarnne can be heard on several programs on 3WBC including her flagship program –What A Wonderful World –on Monday afternoons (4:00pm till 7:00pm).


Vivienne Benton –Associate Producer 

Viv has taken responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the program since January 2008,and makes sure that we have presenters and technical operators ready each week and that the show goes to air.

Viv has been an international model and has worked in a range of television and radio programs including Bellbird,Number 96 and Love Thy Neighbour. In recent times,Viv has spent almost all of her time as a passionate advocate for protecting our planet.

Viv can be heard on 3WBC with her husband,John and her grandson,Zac every Saturday morning,presenting Live The Good Life at 9:00 –10:00am.


Neil Butler –Associate Producer &Webmaster 

Neil has been with the team since the early 2007 and works with the young people in a mentoring and coaching role. He also manages our web site –yourplanet.org.au –for us.

Neil can be heard between 3:00pm and 5:00pm on the fourth Sunday of each month on 3WBC with his program Radio Ga Ga,playing the kind of music that the team thinks is just a bit too daggy for Your Planet Needs You!.

He thinks that he’s a radio celebrity and so always insists on having sunglasses on whenever he gets his photo taken. Sad,really …
